Cut #16 Rehtaeh Parsons

This particular project is my tribute to Rehtaeh Parsons. A young girl who bravely tried to battle injustice which was done to her but ultimately lost. Cut to black and mounted on Lily card stock.

The tattoo 實力勇氣 The last two characters mean bravery. The second character means strength. The first one is a little difficult to translate, but it roughly means real, really, practical. In short: Practical/real strength comes from bravery. As for the tattoo being fishy on someone that age, I suspect it came after the rape. She was trying to reminder herself to push on. It was a symbol to remind herself to be brave.

There were a number of free floating elements which were held in place with straight lines.  These were cut away after final cut was mounted on backing card stock.

Cut #15 Stick People

This project began as a sketch for life drawing using stick people to capture general body dimensions and positioning. Took a bit longer than I expected to complete as there were problems with the svg file and the first cut was not properly positioned on the mat. Perhaps this was because it was originally cut #13? :>) Who knows.

Final project cut to red and mounted on black card stock.  One picture of the cut on the mat before peeling. Another picture of the cut post peel naked against the window.

Cut #14 Monica Lee

This project started from a photograph of Monica Lee which was taken by Judy Chee of Judy Chee Photography. The final project was cut to black and mounted on red card stock. I took a few pics of shadows through the cut, lighting the cut from behind the mat, the cut up against a window and the cut partially peeled off the mat.
